Micronik TVBox 1200S - The box that almost made it (Page 2 of 5)
The Hardware
The
first thing you notice after unpacking the receiver is it's remote control -
ergonomically shaped with logically positioned keys and the SELECT button on
the underside of the remote, a little above a badly fitted battery cover. All
buttons are soft and responsive to presses, the exceptions being the MENU and
TV/RADIO keys positioned along a risen curve in the middle of the remote - they
have a slight tendency to slide horizontally rather than vertically and miss
their call.
The
front of the receiver is eclectic - a COMMON ACCESS MODULE to the left and to
the right an oval shaped set of eight multifunction buttons. These can be used
to switch the receiver to special modes - e.g. for 'software updates'. Finally
a Vacuum Fluorescent Display is centrally positioned in the middle of the front
fascia. The overall feeling is a bit plastic, however the same can be said about
almost all products over the last decade.
At
the back of the box are the following:
¡ 2 x F-type inputs
- one for the dish, the other is a 'loop through' output for another receiver.
¡ RF in and loop
¡ RCA output
¡ 3 x SCRT sockets with advanced manageability via OSD
¡ SVHS socket
¡ AC3 output *
¡ RS232 serial port to connect an external terminal **
* Micronik opted
for a connection similar to a SoundBlaster Live! S/PDIF coaxial jack
** Micronik does
not provide any kind software or settings editor to make use of this port. Luckily
enough there is a first working beta of a third party editor - MTVBEdit downloadable
from the internet for this purpose....
