Digiquest P2000 - Crouching and hidden. (Page 3 of 6)
The CAMs
The
P2000 has two embedded CAMs - Viaccess and Mediaguard. Their operating mode
is quite interesting actually, as appropriate cards work no matter which of
the two slots is in use. Insert a Viaccess card into upper slot - it works,
move it to the bottom one - it works fine as well.
However there are small three issues
regarding the CAMs support in OSD that we've noticed:
The
first problem occurs when a wrong or invalid card is inserted into any of the
slots or a reset nano is sent from the provider. OSD displays 'Error module
0'. It doesn't actually matter which slot the troublesome card is in, it's always
indicated as error of one and the same module 0.
The
second problem is viewing the number of providers on the card from the internal
menu. If the card you attempt to view has more than 1+8 providers, the CAM menu
displays the list of them one by one to the bottom of the screen and then attempts
to draw the rest of the menu folding it from the top. That obviously makes the
OSD visit Teletubbies land and display turns into surreal artwork with horizontal
lines dancing all over the place in hiccup attack. Mind you - this menu was
designed for use with proper, legal cards consisting of 1+1 provider, so we
can't really complain.
The
third error, the least important of all three, is the 'Stream error' message
on the screen. The presumed stream error appears to be a reaction to troubles
with symulcrypt, changed audio pid as well as invalid Provider Bit Map, under
which condition two channels from different packages overlap and also when the
card simply doesn't contain subscription rights for next month. So, after you
find that somewhat generic error on the screen, there is a bit of confusion
as to what to do - check the channel settings or call the provider. This problem
doesn't occur on Viaccess channels where all errors seem to have their own popup
- 'no rights' etc.
Both CAMs nevertheless work very well and in full cooperation. In case you switch
to a channel encrypted in both Seca and Viaccess and you don't have viewing
rights on one of the cards in the slot an error message regarding permissions
appears on the screen only for a second and then the box just continues with
displaying programs using the right card.
Both
CAMs were unfriendly to logging devices as all our attempts to get active and
passive Season interface communicating with CAMs was to no avail. The trick
seems to rely on the way the cam initiates itself. The CAM is in 'ready' mode
when an object lifts a little mechanism inside - inserting carton board cut
to the size of the card seems to do the trick as well. Then the module attempts
to read the card in order to assign either of the embedded systems to it. Because
the logger itself doesn't produce any valid information the CAM never initiates.
We presume there is also some sort of process validating connectors on the card
because a typical Season interface with 3x2 connectors and a valid card inserted
on the other side would not pass enough info to the CAM to start it properly.
