GbSat 2CI 20 - The Time Shifter (Page 2 of 6)
The Setup
The
main menu offers four choices - Installation, User Preference, System
Setup and CI Information.
The "System Setup" menu is divided into three sections - self-explanatory
setup, Initialise HDD and HDD information. The second reformats the entire
hard drive of the PVR in case of data corruption or replacement of the
drive. Third, naturally identifies the hardware inside.
|
Initial
setup of the box starts with choosing the default language for the OSD.
The available languages are English, German, Russian, French, Spanish and
Italian. |
Further
on we have a choice of which language the audio soundtrack on the channels
automatically defaults to. The box does a very good job with defaulting
to language of your choice by the way. Down below a user can specify TV
format, SCRT output standard and RF output which, involves pretty much all
PAL versions as well as joint compatibility with Yankee NTSC (useful for
the feeds coming from across the Atlantic). Here as well you can setup the
time offset from GMT for the box. |
Let's go to Installation menu:
The
first of them - Installation is divided into six subsections starting
with dish and motor setup, through initial channel search options to the
data transfer menu and reset. Data transfer is more likely targeting wholesalers
or retailers of the box than end users, as it allows setting and OS duplication
between two receivers. Although should your friends have similar equipment
to yours there it is - you can clone settings between the two.
|
Dish
setup is done per satellite - receiver can operate up to 32 positions and
1000 transponders of your choice and as you will find out later in this
chapter of the review there is a bit to choose from. Each position has editable
list of transponders right below. In this menu user can choose LNB type
matching his setup, turn 22kHz switching on and off or choose DiSEqC level
between 1.0 (up to 4 LNBs per switch), 1.2 motor or USALS. DiSEqC 1.2 motor
setup has all functions required by Eutelsat including limits and reference
positions. The 2CI 20 can be also used with distributed SMATV systems. |
USALS
is a registered trademark of STAB Italy and stands for Universal Satellite
Automatic Location System. It is a direct evolution of DiSEqC 1.2 with
a set of extra commands also known as DiSEqC 1.3 (which was incorrect
as it is not a DiSEqC trademarked standard of Eutelsat) or Go-to-X. If
you choose the USALS option, the menu right below offers extra configuration
options for the set-up of a compatible motor such as limits, going to
position, returning to reference position and storing readjusted positions
to memory. Throughout the whole setup a quickly refreshing signal level
and quality indicator is available at all times.
|
To
allow easy setup for first time users there is a separate menu entry for
Geo Offset used with USALS. Here you simply enter latitude and longitude
of your location and as long as your dish is set properly due south the
compatible motor will do the rest. The friendly approach is one of the first
things we noticed during the setup and then everyday usage of the box. The
amplitude of clearly layered out choices paired with literature provided
should make motorised system set up swift and no trouble even to first time
users. |
