The Digenius tvbox® • ci is not much bigger than an A4 sheet of paper,
and has neither flaps nor fancy engraved logos on the front. In fact
the only thing that truly distinguishes this box from the other equipment
on the shelf is its four digit LCD display, presented in a distressing,
yet original, shade of Cru Beaujolais burgundy red. Two channel switching
buttons to the right and a power button to the far left add the only
complexity to the Spartan exterior.
|
Looking at the back you will encounter something unusual - two hidden
Common Interface slots! Admittedly not everyone enjoys watching blinking
LEDs on their SMD Fun Cards, so the back of the receiver is indeed a
good place to hide your cards.
The minimalistic design is kept throughout entire box - next to the
common interface slots there is a standard RS232 serial interface to
organise settings and upgrade the box (Digenius use a straight cable,
not null modem like in most of the receivers), the cinch analogue audio
outputs, two SCARTs and a single F connector. The receiver designers
decided to skip the usual RF connectors used for IF loopthrough,to pass
signal to a second receiver. But I don't think anybody will miss the
latter in a DVB receiver.

Remotes do tend to be the cost cutter in the final package, and so is
this particular one. The remote control is a very simple dual AA battery
powered unit of considerable thickness and of a no thrills, plastic design.
The buttons are responsive but solid; there isn't much chance of accidentally
pressing one. The IR beam is quite narrow, approximately 60 degrees. |
