Pros: |
Pros: Viaccess, Seca embedded plus 2 CI, digital out, all DisEQc levels for present and future motorised expansion. |
Cons: |
Cons: channel search, memory space, no external editor software |
Points: Perform : 6 Features: 8 Value/dosh: 7

It's a funky receiver: nice graphics, friendly remote, outstanding picture quality. You have internal sound control, digital audio output plus many great features including freeze frame and zoom options. It's quite fast, menus animation is hell of an eyecatcher. It takes a little while to get used to the channel and bouquet options in P2000, you can move channels only withing the bouquet and re-shuffle bouquets on their own, so if you want, say, all thematic channels from different packages one by one, you really have to use user defined favourites. But then each favourites can keep only 100 channels, so if you have your dish cruising through the whole horizon you will use all eight favourite menus right away. But the real downside of thsi receiver is that you get only two thousand channels, sounds like a lot, but there is no radio channels limitation, so even with Astra plus HotBird you fill all memory storage and some of the channels just can't fit in. Wouldn't be a problem if there was some sort of settings editor, so you could preload what you really want. And crashes. This receiver hates French channels. Whole Cannal Sattelite and CSat packages make it jump, reboot, get stoned and go bezzerk. OS has to be definitelly fixed. Would love to give it more for performance but I can't - i have to stand up and use power button way too often.
NOTE: If you think this opinion strangely resembles SC editorial review, it's just because we were reviewing my receiver. The only reason why I post second opinion here is because I slightly disagree with scores for performance, etc.. given to the receiver by the group. So here's my $0.2 :) |

Pros: |
Pros: Looks, RG picture quality |
Cons: |
Cons: "S" video does not work, black and white RF picture, no support |
Points: Perform : 7 Features: 7 Value/dosh: 6

I bought the Digiquest because it offers multiple scart connections (or so I though), "S" video output and digital audio out. I added an IRDETO cam to receieve the Greek Nova channels. Irdeto decoding does not work unless you remove and re-insert the card a few times. I wanted "S" video output so I can connect the Digiquest via an AV amplifier to a projector, whilst connecting RGB via Scart to a TV. Unfortunately, if you set the TV Scart output to RGB in the audiovisual menu, the "S" video output (via the 4 pin minidin) becomes very very poor. If you set it to "YC" ie. "S" video, the picture is wonderful, but the RF picture turns to black and white.
I thought there were 4 scart connections, but there is one marked NC (no connection).
I tried to contact ASTON via e-mail and phone to get some of these problems resolved, but to no avail. The dealer that sold me the unit knew less about it than I did.
There was a promise of new version of software (2008), but I have not been able to perform it. The download procedure within the menus does not work.
So good idea, but poor performance overall and the lack of support nails the coffin tightly shut in my view. I have allowed a two week period for a software download in the hope that this will resolve my problems, after which I will return it in exchange for a Humax 5400. Incidentally, software version 2007 which my receiever came with, increases the capacity to 3,500 approx. and resolved a few other minor problems.
PS. This is my second Digiquest, it was exchanged in the belief that all the faults I described were caused by a faulty unit. wishful thinking.... |

I unpacked the receiver at 10:00 and was watching digital channels less than an hour later. As I was making the giant leap from analogue into the scary world of digital I expected a day/week of frustration, this certainly was not the case with the Digiquest P2000! The usual senario followed the unpacking, in that the instructions were discarded immediately and the unit was connected and switched on. A quick stumble through the impressive looking menu system and I was auto searching the channels available through my old LNB which reported virtually no signal strength! This returned a surprisingly healthy number of channels. The picture received was perfect the sound also perpetuated my inane grin. The two embedded CAMs were hurriedly filled with cards (the top slot was a tight squeeze, probably just my machine) and the encrypted channels also came to life. I had read about lockups during reception of French channels, and fingers crossed I have not experienced it ......!
yet! The menus are easy to follow even for the novice (believe me!) I can't comment on the motorisation of the unit as the motor is still in its packaging as I'm waiting for a sunny day. So have I any complaints? The colour (silver) doesn't match my existing boxes.....but I think I would rather change them as opposed to my Digiquest. The navigation through the menus/program list can be somewhat frustrating in that the selection jumps rapidly on occaision. The web site for Aston says nothing about the Digiquest, there is more info here at Satcritics than the manufacturers web site!
As mentioned before I am complete novice and to that end there is no real technical information to be gleend from this review, but hey if you are a novice or not this receiver is excellent in just about all respects.

For the latest news see digiquest.cc
For 2 embedded CAMs its great. We'll have to wait and see if it takes seca2..
Remote control needs to be facing receiver at 0°, otherwise no pick up.

Cons: Lack of support, Forums and 'software' for upgrades

Recommended by a seasoned user who showed me the ropes but who had a Humax 5400 (now fully patched for Fun Card etc.)
For mine to provide me with as much 'fun' as the Humax, I have to spend about further |
