Cons: Cons: Motorized dish driving flaws

Very 'easygoing' receiver with plenty of users, tons of extra software (settings editors, patches, etc) and many, many support forums.
Not too fast, not too slow, not too bad looking. Works fine in twin LNB mode, works with DiSEQ 1.2 motors, although, admittedly lack of limits can be an issue. Menus are clear and nice, with one of the mods you can insert your own pics and make it look even nicer. There is no extra, NASA-super features in the box but at the end of the day - who needs them. And most of all - ever heard of faulty Humax?

5400 has two CI slots and irdeto embedded. Irdeto can be patched to allcam for compatibility with ORF and Premiere World. Thanks to patch you can also run emulators like HBEmu and watch Viaccess and Seca channels with Irdeto cam as well! Update is done through serial port. Humax has no SCSI port like Nokia, but normal PC serial - you can use crossed cable from any shop. Picture is ok. It has good EPG and subtitles. Latest 1.01.10 patch fixed motorized dish problems and you can set motor limits.
Bad things? Search is slow. But it isn't any problem - you can find many ready settings and upload them to receiver with serial cable.

Humax 5400. Quick, stable, multistandard cam decoder . I do not see sense of buying the other type of humax receiver. It has big problems with simulcrypt. Humax corporation is producting receiver which has to use pirate card if you want to use 2 or more decoders!

It is definitely one of the best receivers on the market. It is fast when changing services, has plenty of chanell positions, has friendly menus, good favourite lists, has digital audio output, lots and lots of options, etc...
Bad sides are: 1. TENDS TOO FREEZE WHEN CHANGING SERVICES! (MAKES YOU MAD WHEN IT DOES THAT!) - it's biggest minus!!!
2. Remote could be made better. IR diodes are somewhat hidden inside it so you have to direct it directly towards the STB in order to do the job - not a very big problem once when you get used to it!
3. Sometimes picture and sound are not very synchronised - don't know if it is STB's fault or maby broadcasters!?

it works like win95 on 486 machine. slow software, slow clock hehe (in 24 hours a few minutes late) , it sets clock to every sattelite you are currently on, crashes once or twice per day, but as i said i dont know how other receivers work so .. anyway you can look Tv. It is not worse than other computer driven devices i bought recently videorec, car, mobile phone. Where are the god old analogue times

Very good receiver with very fast software and very good menu which is very easy for use.
This receiver has beater features then his bigest concuration Nokia MM 9800 because it`s got faster software , better diseq 1.2 motor control , digital audio output ... other features see by your self. But trust me I`m working and installing this receivers in past 3 years and I`m more then satisfaid.

[ed. note - review ref. to Humax IRCI 5400Z patched]

I think the Humax range are technically superb and good value.
The manual does not explain anything in detail.
The best option seems to be get a clue from the manual then tune for smoke.
