Canal+ vs. NDS
 Canal+ Technologies (authors of Mediaguard encryption) announced this morning that they have filed a lawsuit against News Datacom/NDS Group plc (patent holders of encryption system known as Videoguard) for alleged conspiracy to harm Canal+ position in the market.
Canal+ reports that NDS spent undisclosed sum of money to crack Mediaguard smart cards and publish extraction methods on the Internet. In simple words Canal+ Technologies holds NDS Group Plc, a subsidiary of News Corporation Ltd responsible for introduction of pirated Mediaguard cards on the web or at least publishing details regarding Mediaguard encryption that allowed for smart card emulation.
